What Does Not Work

Listing "proficient with AI tools" on your resume. Every candidate does this now. It has zero signal value. Similarly, mentioning specific tools (Cursor, Copilot) without evidence of effective usage tells recruiters nothing.

Certifications and courses about prompt engineering. These show you studied the topic, not that you can apply it in production. No hiring manager we spoke to considers them meaningful.

What Actually Works

Verified contribution history showing consistent AI-assisted development. A profile that shows: which tools you use, how many prompts per commit, what models you prefer for different tasks, and how long you have been building with AI. This is concrete, verifiable, and impossible to fake.

Open source contributions with AI attribution. If a recruiter can see that you contributed to a real project using AI tools effectively, that is stronger than any interview question.

A portfolio of shipped projects with visible AI workflow. Not "I used AI to build this" but "here are the 847 prompts, 234 commits, and 5 models I used to build this over 3 weeks."

The Hiring Shift

Engineering managers told us they now look at three things: can the candidate write effective prompts (specificity, context, constraints)? Can they evaluate AI output critically (not just accept everything)? And can they integrate AI into a real development workflow (not just toy examples)?
